Hello, I’m Jeff Damron.I’ve been working on my pedigree since 1991.
I was a practicing attorney from 1987 until I retired in March, 2024 to follow my passion for family history. Practicing law taught many worthwhile skills that apply equally in genealogy, such as:
- The importance of thorough research
- Logical organization of facts and arguments
- Concise and clear writing
- Monitoring and managing time
- The importance of honesty with, and respect for, individual clients
In addition to my Juris Doctorate degree which I earned from the University of Kentucky College of Law in 1987, my education specifically in genealogy includes courses from the National Genealogical Sociey in the Foundations of Genealogy as well as a course dedicated specifically to researching Revolutionary War records. To stay on top of developing trends and tools in the area (such as AI, DNA, and newly available online records), I regularly attend lectures, seminars, and webinars.
I am active in the genealogy community and belong to the following societies and groups:
- NGS (National Genealogical Society)
- APG (Association of Professional Genealogists)
- Writers SIG (Special Interest Group) of the APG
- Southeast Chapter of the APG
- KyGS (Kentucky Genealogical Society)
- Member of the Nominating Committee for Board members and officers
- KHS (Kentucky Historical Society)
- Volunteer moderator for Kentucky Ancestors Facebook page, which now has over 50,000 members
- Scott County (Kentucky) Genealogical Society
On a more personal note, I have lived in Kentucky all of my; I have been married to my wife, Ann, since 1987; we both recently became Catholic; we have two grown children, three grandkids, two spoiled dogs, and multiple grand-pets; and I love history, photography, and books.
