There are two basic services in genealogy: research and writing.
These can be broken down into a variety of projects. Research can involve pushing back a family tree as far as possible; linking to an ancestor who fought in the Revolutionary War; discovering what the life of a farmer was like in the 1870s in Kentucky; or exploring the lives of miners, mothers, blacksmiths, doctors, dentists, merchants, or any other vocation or occupation in any locality at any time. Writing can involve summarizing a few vital facts, or writing a comprehensive biography, or anything in between. In short, the variables involved in researching and writing family history are vast. And therefore, every project is different.
I routinely use a host of online sources in my research. Additionally, my home in Georgetown, Kentucky is conveniently located to several physical repositories, including:
- Martin F. Schmidt Research Library at the Kentucky Historical Society in Frankfort, Kentucky (30 minutes away);
- The Kentucky Department for Libraries and Archives (KDLA), also in Frankfort (30 minutes away);
- John Fox Genealogical Library in Paris, Kentucky (30 minutes away);
- University of Kentucky resources in Lexington, Kentucky (30 minutes away);
- The Filson Society in Louisville, Kentucky (75 minutes away);
- Sons of the American Revolution Genealogical Research Library in Louisville (75 minutes away)
- University of Cincinnati Libraries in Cincinnati, Ohio (75 minutes away);
- Hamilton County Genealogical Society in Cincinnati, Ohio (75 minutes away); and
- Cincinnati History Library and Archives at the Cincinnati Museum Center (75 minutes away).
Together, we can create a plan that is highly personalized and tailored to meet your unique needs and goals. To better tailor and predict the cost of each unique project, I bill by the time I invest and charge $50.00 per hour for services – but only after we have discussed and agreed on a plan of action.
